The online retailer Amazon is listing Hidamari Sketch × ☆☆☆ Tokubetsu-hen, the 48-minute third Special Edition set of additional Hidamari Sketch anime, for an October 27 release on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in Japan. A new Hidamari Sketch × ☆☆☆ project had already been listed on the cover of a free anime industry guide that will be distributed at Tokyo's Comic Market 78 event next week.

Hidamari Sketch × ☆☆☆ is the third television anime series in the Hidamari Sketch franchise, and it ran from January to March of this year. The previous two television anime series — Hidamari Sketch and Hidamari Sketch × 365 — each spawned a Special Edition mini-series as well.

The Hidamari Sketch anime franchise adapts Ume Aoki's manga about a high school for the arts and the everyday life of four of its students. Director Akiyuki Shinbo and the studio SHAFT animated all three television series after working on Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and MoonPhase. Sentai Filmworks licensed the Hidamari Sketch and Hidamari Sketch x 365 television anime series in North America, and Section23 Films distributed these two series on DVD. Yen Press published the fourth volume of the original manga (under the name Sunshine Sketch) in January.
