The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Fumi Yoshinaga's Ōoku: The Inner Chambers manga began streaming the full two-minute trailer on Friday. (In the linked page, select the "動画" option from the top left menu.) The website is also streaming a one-minute teaser trailer.

The historical science fiction story takes place in an alternate-history version of medieval Japan, in which a bizarre disease has dwindled the male population. This has led to a matriarchal society where women outnumber men by 4 to 1. The shogun and de facto ruler of Japan keeps her own harem of men, or Ōoku.

Arashi J-pop group member Kazunari Ninomiya (Tekkonkinkreet, Letters from Iwo Jima) will play Hiroyuki Mizuno, the young man rising through the ranks of the Shogunate, while singer/actress Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale, Dororo, Sekai no Chūshin de, Ai wo Sakebu) will play Shogun Yoshimune herself. Fuminori Kaneko, a director best known for the live-action Kisarazu Cat's Eye and Ikebukuro West Gate Park television series, is overseeing the Ōoku film project. Natsuko Takahashi scripted the animated television version of another Yoshinaga work, Antique Bakery, before tackling this project.

ASMIK Ace will release the film in Japan on October 1. Viz Media is releasing the fourth volume of the manga in North America this month.

The game studio CAPCOM is streaming a promotional movie for MonHun Nikki Girigiri Airū-mura Airū Kiki Ippatsu, a series of 10 Flash-animated shorts based on the MonHun Nikki Pokapoka Airū-mura game for the Sony PSP. In this Monster Hunter spinoff, the player joins other members of the Airū (Felyne) species in building their village, and then expanding it. DLE, the company best known for the Flash-animated Secret Society Eagle Talon television series and films, is producing this tie-in anime. The anime will premiere on the MBS television station in Japan on Thursday, and will then begin streaming on the official website next Monday.
