| Film, Comic, Game Makers Discuss Anime InspirationsScott Pilgrim/Shaun of the Dead director cites Akira, Battle of the Planets. In a recent interview with MovieRetriever, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Shaun of the Dead movie director Edgar Wright brought up anime when asked about inspirations for the movie. Wright noted that while he didn't "get into anime" until after Katsuhiro Otomo's anime film Akira came out, his first experience with Japanese animation was Battle of the Planets, a 1978 American-edited version of the 1972 anime Gatchaman. Comics creator Josh Finney also cited anime among the inspirations for the graphic novel he co-created, Titanium Rain, published by Archaia Comics. Speaking to graphic novel site GraphicPolicy, Finney said that the films of anime director Mamoru Oshii were "hands down, the biggest influence" on his comic, specifically citing Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, and The Sky Crawlers, as well as Oshii's live-action film Avalon. While promoted the upcoming game Deus Ex: Human Revolution in a Eurogamer interview, lead designer Jean-François Dugas also listed Ghost in the Shell among influences for the game's look, along with other unnamed anime.
