Former school building became famous after K-ON! modeled its high school after it.

The Japanese postal service, Japan Post, announced on July 27 that it is issuing a set of postage stamps that depict the former campus of Toyosato Elementary School — the real-life model for the high school seen in the K-ON! anime franchise. Although neither the stamps nor the press release mentions K-ON!, one of the stamps features a guitar similar to the one that the K-ON! character Yui plays.

The building, which was replaced by new facilities in 2004, was little known outside the central Japanese city of Toyosato until 2009. In April of that year, the anime adaptation of kakifly's K-ON! manga premiered, and Kyoto Animation modeled the campus of the anime's fictional Sakuragaoka High School after the abandoned building. The following month, the building reopened with the local library and other tenants inside it, and fans of the anime began making pilgrimages to visit it.
